Polina Goncharova

Artist's statement

Polina Goncharova’s practice explores the human condition at the moment when stable reality begins to dissolve — between physical experience, mediated perception, and the convergence of cultural codes.

Her works capture a state of perception shaped by the flow of images and the virtualization of lived experience, in which reality no longer exists as a coherent system, but is assembled from images, cultural signs, archival traces, and visual simulations. Within this system, the human figure is not the protagonist of a personal narrative; rather, it appears as a symptom of the era — a bearer of a shift in which identity, memory, and experience lose their fixed form.

Polina Goncharova’s background in history and cultural studies defines her method. The artist approaches the contemporary world as a space of symbolic migration and cultural mutation, where signs, ornaments, architectural fragments, and elements of material culture are detached from their original contexts and form hybrid structures of a new reality.

Polina Goncharova’s visual language is built on collage logic, fragmentation, and the encounter between painterly, archival, and symbolic elements. Color blocks, monolithic color fields, monochrome fragments, grids, lines, empty zones, and architectural ruins do not describe the world, but reveal it in a state of disruption, reduction, and reconstruction.

For Polina Goncharova, painting becomes an analytical field where reality appears as an unstable construction emerging from fragments of experience, memory, images, and symbolic systems. Disintegration within this system is not a final point: it opens the possibility of new connections, new structures, and alternative forms of presence.
